Pre-K Plus combines popular aspects of Rec soccer with added coach education elements to enhance the experience for both players and volunteer coaches. The program's dual goals are to (1) develop the players as team members & soccer players, and (2) develop the volunteer coaches and give them the tools to work successfully and enjoyably with children.
Each day's session includes a series of fun age-appropriate activities focused on soccer skills and techniques, physical mobility, and game rules, and concludes with a short game. And by the end of the season, team coaches end up more confident and comfortable working with their teams, and the players come away with a stronger sense of the game and how to enjoy it.
Each team’s session will be led by volunteer coaches (parents or others), with staff coaches present to advise, help & instruct. Sometimes the staff coaches will jump in to demonstrate an activity, and other times they will observe and provide supportive feedback. The volunteer coaches will have significant opportunities to learn and grow as coaches.
The eligible age range for Pre-K Plus participants is 6/1/2015 through 10/31/2016.
Pre-K Plus Festival: The last week of the season will feature a Pre-K Plus Festival to celebrate the season.
Volunteer coaches work with staff coaches: Teams will continue to have volunteer coaches, and professional DC Stoddert Soccer staff coaches will work with teams and their coaches as well.
Dual goals for Pre-K Plus: The Pre-K Plus framework will focus on two goals: developing the children as soccer players and teammates, and developing the volunteers as effective and fun coaches.
Team-based program with all games played in the same location: Players will be placed on teams, and all games will happen on Saturdays or Sundays at one field location. The maximum size of a team is 8 players, with 6 to 8 player being optimal.
Similar Pre-K scheduling on Saturdays or Sundays: Games will take place on Saturdays or Sundays, depending on field availabilty. There may be some variation week-to-week, but most teams will not have wild swings in game time. Game locations will be based on field availability, given the relative health restrictions. Some games may take place in close-by fields in Montgomery County.
6 games starting the first weekend in May.
All players receive a size 3 soccer ball: Players will start out properly equipped and ready for action!
NOTE: Program capacity will be limited, so signing up early is the best way to ensure a spot on a Pre-K Plus team! A Late Fee applies to registrations submitted March 26 and after, so sign up now.
