WASHINGTON - DC Stoddert partnered with Washington Spirit Soccer on Tuesday, June 16 to hold a Live Chat Q&A session with Crystal Thomas about her career as a professional soccer player. This event was for our Girls U9-U16 players, who were able to speak with Crystal and ask her questions about her career and life experiences.
Crystal grew up in Chicago, where she started playing soccer in elementary school. She played soccer at Georgetown University before going professional and traveling all over the world to play soccer, such as in Scandinavia and Australia. Currently, she plays for Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League.
In this Q&A session, young players were able to ask Crystal questions about her career as a professional soccer player and the steps she took to achieve this dream. The girls asked questions that related to their experiences as U9-U16 players, such as if Crystal had ever changed field positions, missed friends who were playing different sports, or had been nervous about a game. The girls covered a range of topics such as women having their own professional soccer leagues to play in, young adults questioning their career paths, and players lives and practice schedules during quarantine. Crystal answered these questions truthfully, letting younger players know about her pathway and her struggles, and serving as an example to younger players.
One key takeaway from this live Q&A session stemmed from the question, “What separates an elite player from the rest?” Crystal answered that it is the players’ ability to do the simple things every time and to take the game into your own hands, showing players the importance of mastering the basic skill sets.
