The GU13 Metros (Blue, Red, and Fusion teams) are forming teams for the fall. The Blue Team currently competes in WAGS Division 1 and the Red Team in WAGS Division 5. The Fusion Team competes in MSI. The GU13 Blue and Red Teams will be coached by DC Stoddert Travel Director Kate Samsot, USSF “A” license, Virginia ODP, and former UNC varsity player, and Kevin McShane, USSF “A” license, and former varsity coach at St Alban’s School. The girls rising U14 Mischief Red and Mischief Blue are looking for skilled and committed field players and goalkeepers to fill openings on boith teams. Both teams are professionally-coached. Mischief Blue (Spring '09 runner-up. WAGS Div. 2) coach Mohan Telfer holds a USSF C License and has over 10 years' exerience coaching youth soccer. He also is the Maret School varsity boys' head coach, 2008 DC Stoddert Travel Coach of the Year, and recipiet of the 2009 Liberty Mutual Responsible Coaching Award. Mischief Red (champions, spring '09, WAGS Div. 5) coach Marsha Garcia has been a DC Stoddert coach for five years and has a total of eight years of experience coaching youth soccer. She is a USSF licensed coach, a former college varsity soccer player and current player in Washington Area Women’s Soccer League.
Travel soccer practices for both Mischief teams in the fall will likely be on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in Northwest DC. Travel players are expected to be available for all in-season practices in the fall and in the spring, as well as training, tournaments or clinics during the winter and summer off-seasons. Games are primarily on Sundays, but are also scheduled on Saturdays. The WAGS League occasionally schedules a double-header Saturday and Sunday. Interested players should contact managers Raina Fishbane or Suzie Turner to answer questions and to schedule a skills evaluation.
The GU15 DC Stoddert Edge (WAGS Div. 2) and Extreme (WAGS Div. 5) seek skilled field players and goal keepers for fall 2009. Edge is coached by Andre Russo (former George Washington University varsity standout) and Dan Driscoll (former goalkeeper for Pomona). The team competed in NCSL Division 2 this past spring and will be coached by Evans Malyi in the fall. Coach Malyi played at the University of Maryland-College Park before joining the Washington Mustangs. He has been coaching youth soccer for 15 years. He coaches a number of teams, including the Maryland Olympic Development U16 boys. He is a member of the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association coaching education staff and holds a USSF "A" License and USSF National Youth License. Rising U16 DC Stoddert Blue Lightning (NCSL Div. 2) is looking for a goalkeeper and talented and dedicated impact field players. Tryouts will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays during regular team practices beginning May 20th. The team is professionally coached by Evans Malyi, who played at the University of Maryland before playing professionally. Coach Evans has been coaching youth soccer for 13 years, the past nine focusing on player development.
