Ghanian World Cup Veteran to Embark on Advanced Coaching Education Opportunities through the NSCAA
DC Stoddert Soccer is delighted to announce that Mavis Danso has been named a scholar recipient of the NSCAA 30 Under 30 Program, which is a year-long education and mentorship opportunity for a select group of young coaches who have made soccer coaching their career of choice. The NSCAA initiated this program in 2013 to support fledgling coaches and foster their growth at a crucial point in their vocation.
Danso, who has been with DC Stoddert Soccer since 2011, was one of 30 coaches selected by the NSCAA from a pool of more than 600 applicants and is the first coach from DC Stoddert Soccer to receive this honor. She served as Head Coach of the Girls’ Under 9 and Under 10 Gold Metros travel squads during the 2013-14 academic year.
“I thought that my application would not go through,” Danso explained when asked about the process and material she gathered at short notice last winter. “I’m honored to be chosen and will do everything in my power to learn and apply the skills and experiences that come from this program to the players and teams I work with here at DC Stoddert.”
Over the next year, Danso will participate in multiple conference calls hosted by the NSCAA and contribute an educational or training article for the NSCAA’s website and publications. Additionally, she will participate in focus groups and actively engage in coaching education programs associated with the NSCAA’s Annual Convention, Summer Symposium or Advanced Coaching Academy course, all of which is paid for by the 30 Under 30 scholarship awarded by the NSCAA.
“We are delighted for Mavis and her family,” said Doug Homer, Executive Director. “She continues to set the bar high for her players, their parents and herself, and this type of opportunity will greatly benefit everyone in the club, especially when we all learn of the opportunities Mavis will have as part of her participation in the 30 Under 30 program.”
