On a lovely, spring day in the heart of Washington, more than 1,500 DC Stoddert Soccer familiies descended on Carter Baron Park for the opening day of the 2014 spring soccer season. Players as young as 4 made their way out to the park for their first match of organized team soccer in the Stoddert Nation while returning players above the age of 5 played small-sided matches on 24 fields spread across Carter Baron Park.
"What an amazing start to spring soccer!", said Doug Homer, Stoddert's new Executive Director. "I was thrilled to see so many smiling faces and positive support from parents, coaches and family throughout the day. A special thank you goes out to all of our volunteer commissioners, Board members and executive team members for the countless hours they have put in over the past several weeks to allow the First Kick weekend to get off the ground with few issues."
Special thanks to the front office staff of D.C. United and the Washington Spirit for their generous support of the club and First Kick opening day festivities. Both clubs welcomed Stoddert children and parents throughout the day, and distributed branded soccer balls and other giveaway items. Even Talon, United's official mascot, walked the sidelines and shook hands with the Stoddert faithful.
