DC Stoddert Girls’ Under 11 Blue Metros made history this past weekend in Richmond as they defeated Georgia power, TopHat TH-21 Navy, 4-2 in the final of the Platinum 8v8 bracket of the 2014 Jefferson Cup.
Led by Coach Karen Kelser, the Blue Metros tallied 15 goals over four matches and completed the showcase with a record of three wins and one loss. They played against clubs from Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia over the course of two days.
“Our girls did a fantastic job!”, said Kelser. “ All of the games were fast, physical and intense, and the players needed to do what the games demanded, defend ruthlessly, transition quickly and effectively, then convert chances to goals. They met those demands, and they were successful.”
The team is currently ranked fifth in the state of Virginia and sixty-second among clubs in Region I.
Congratulations to Coach Kelser and members of the Blue Metros community for their outstanding achievement at the Jefferson Cup. We can’t wait to see how far you go this spring!
