These teams seek players for the winter 2010 training and spring 2011 season:
New Girls' U16/U15 Travel Team forming. The DC Stoddert Phoenix is holding tryouts Nov. 16, 18 and 21 from 6 pm - 8 pm at Jelleff Field, 3525 S Street NW in upper Georgetown, for young women dedicated to having fun playing the sport they love in either the Washington Area Girls Soccer League or MSI Classic league during the spring 2011 season. The emphasis will be on fitness and skills development, with players earning community service hours by volunteering with soccer programs that provide soccer opportunities to children throughout the city. Two evening training sessions per week from mid-January at Jelleff Boys & Girls Club, 3265 S Street, NW, or at an indoor facility. Other tryouts possible if you can't make those dates; to arrange, please lease contact co-coaches Joanna Gomez, former University of Tennessee-Martin player and certified physical fitness trainer, and Sarah Pickens, All-American player at Duke University. The rising U16 Dragons will hold tryouts for interested boys (born after 8/1/94) on Wednesday, June 9 and Saturday, June 12. The June 9 tryout is from 6:00 to 7:30 at Fort Stevens Recreation Center, 14th and Van Buren Sts. NW. The Sat. June 12 session is from 5:00 to 6:30 at Shepherd Elementary School on Kalmia between 15th and 16th Sts. NW. The Dragons are looking for players at every position! The rising GU16 DCST Edge -- WAGS Div. 2 champions -- is looking for impact players. The Edge won the Spring 2010 division championship and plans to focus the fall season on showcase tournaments. The team will focus on college showcase tournaments for the spring and summer. The Heat also has received a grant to travel to Morocco July 9 - 20 for a soccer and cultural experience of a lifetime.
