Joins VA/DC Olympic Development Program
(ODP) Region I Player Pool
It took four or five grueling sessions every day for a week in July, but GU14 Edge Goalkeeper Dana Daniels, was selected for the Olympic Development Program’s Region I player pool. That puts her among the nation’s top 160-200 players in her 1995 age group.
Says Daniels: "The goalkeepers worked the hardest because if you were in the pool, you had training in the mornings at 8:00 and then again in the afternoon at [about] 2, then in the evening at [about] 5...and then the whole player pool after the 5pm session." ge group. Daniels continues, "Region I Camp was so much fun, you meet a lot of people and make lots of friends. I made friends with people who live in Germany...New Jersey and Maryland...and also in New York and Conneticut. [They] are in the pool with me and I still stay in contact with them. What I could have done was brought my VA training shirts or some old club soccer jerseys and traded with [players from] some other states in Region. But on the list [of rules] it said to bring nothing that had our state affiliation on it...Doing ODP is fun because you get to meet new people...Also you learn a lot from the different coaches you meet. Now from doing ODP I [also] know people on different teams and a lot in WAGS that are in Division 2."
