The USSF license is recognized around the world as proof of completion of one of these professionally instructed soccer coaching courses. Your time in these courses represents an investment in your young players’ growth and future, and in your own understanding of the game and how to teach it.
DC Stoddert Soccer is affiliated with VYSA. VYSA includes 80 clubs throughout Virginia and DC encompassing 135,000 youth players and a full service of soccer programs, ranging from the Coaching Education Program, Olympic Development Program (ODP), State Referees Association (SRA), tournament sanctioning, and insurance.
DCSSL, 32 years old, has grown from 60 to more than 5,000 youth soccer players, 350 house league (recreational) and travel teams, and hundreds of volunteer coaches in the DC Metro Area. The League’s philosophy is fun, skill development, equitable playing time for all open (rec.) players, and competitive travel squads. DCSSL sponsors 42 travel teams, 9-12 Developmental Academies, Open Coaches Clinics, Weekly Skills Clinics for Open players U8-U14, Goalkeeper Clinics, FIFA and Junior Referee Training, and the USSF coaching courses.
DC STODDERT’S MANDATORY COACHING POLICY
DC Stoddert’s Board, acknowledging the need for trained soccer coaches, made the USSF coaching license mandatory.
All DCSSL coaches must have the appropriate certification to remain as coaches:
q U5-U8: F Certificate
q U9 and above: E Certificate
q Travel Coaches: D License
COURSE INSTRUCTOR: Len Oliver
DCSSL’s Director of Coaching, Len Oliver, holds the USSF ‘A’ National Coaching License and the National Youth License. A former professional player, Len played on the US Pan-American Team (1963) and Olympic Team (1964). Serving on VYSA’s State Coaching Staff, Len has trained over 4,200 coaches from 83 countries. Inducted into the
USSF National Soccer Hall of Fame (1996) and the Virginia-DC Soccer Hall of Fame (2001) which he chairs.
Spring ’E’ CERTIFICATE COURSE 18 hours for U9 coaches & above
For U9 Coaches And Above. Emphasis on coaching philosophy, teaching techniques, offensive and defensive tactics, small-sided games, teaching from the game, organizing a practice, fitness, team management, care and prevention of injuries, and Laws. Coaching practice and take-home exam included. Required for the USSF D License Course.
