Men's PRO23 Advance to Semifinal

WASHINGTON – The DC Stoddert Men’s PRO23 team have clinched the first overall seed of the CCL PRO23 League. The team finished the season with a record of 6-0-0 and was the only team on the men’s or women’s side to win all of its regular season games.

With six wins and a goal differential of +15, DC Stoddert has earned the right to host a semifinal against division rival FC Frederick.

The game against Frederick will be a rematch of a June 3 matchup, which Stoddert won by a score of 3-2. All three Stoddert goals in that game were scored by Vinny Barone, who leads the team with eight goals overall.

This is DC Stoddert’s first season fielding a Pro23 team, which contains a mix of college players, soon-to-be college freshmen and current Stoddert youth players.

The team scored its biggest win of the season in its second game, a 5-0 rout against Bethesda, on their way to winning the Ace division by two games.

“It's been a great summer so far for our PRO23's. They have trained well every week and been committed throughout. We have come together as a team and have good banter throughout the group which makes it fun,” said head coach Matt Thompson.

"It's just been a great experience for me personally. It's similar to coaching at the collegiate level, for DC Stoddert which I have enjoyed."

The semifinal game will be played Saturday, July 15 at Catholic University at 11 am. The final will be played Sunday, July 16 at Loudoun Soccer Park at 7 pm.
